RUSSELL Lawrance said his Penryn side have to start “turning up” away from home to progress in the league.

A trip to Tribute Western Counties West league leaders Exeter University awaits Borough on Saturday which their head coach said will be tough.

So far this season Borough have lost all three of their away games and the squad has been hit by injuries in recent weeks with the likes of Josh Chambers, Nathan Strick, Phil Hinchley and Ben Jordan unavailable.

However, the starting line-up named for Saturday’s visit to Exeter does include captain George Jones for the first time since their home match with Truro on October 11.

Lawrance said whatever side goes to Exeter will have a chance if they are prepared for battle.

“In this league there isn’t a lot between most of the teams so you’ve got to turn up and play,” he said.

“We didn’t do that at Wadebridge and we got put to the sword, but against Devonport on Saturday it was more comfortable for us and we won, although we still had to work hard.

“One of the challenges for us is managing the travel because we haven’t really turned up away from home, but we’ll have to if we are to win on Saturday.”

Borough go into the match having bounced back from a crushing 32-0 defeat at Wadebridge two weeks ago to beat Devonport Services last weekend 22-11.

Having lost their previous three games, although their match with Torquay Athletic is due to be replayed on November 8, Lawrance said his side were under a bit of pressure.

But the head coach added he was happy with the response, saying it was just what the doctor ordered.

Lawrance said: “They all now they underperformed at Wadebridge and they looked like a side under pressure at times during the game, but I’m proud of them with how they performed.

“What we tried to do differently against Devonport was to try and be a little bit more patient in order to cut out some of the unforced errors which have gifted easy wins to opponents.

“I was delighted in terms of how we controlled the second half and we could have got more points, but you have to give credit to Devonport because they really fronted up in defence.”
