NEARLY half the Cornwall Under 15s girls squad came from Helston in their most recent match away in Somerset.

The Clodgey Lane club saw ten of their young female players make it into the 22-strong squad which travelled down to Wells for their clash with the recent Divisional County Festival champions.

Somerset would go onto win the game 39-0, but it did not take away any of the pride from Helston at seeing so many of their girls in the team.

Coach Lorry Osman said: “Naturally everyone at the club is very proud of the girls and the fact that the club has provided such a large contingent to the county squad.

“They all gave everything and kept going right to the final whistle against a very strong Somerset side.”

In the match, Cornwall started strongly using their forwards to press Somerset and keep them in their own half.

The hosts were bullish in defence though and started producing attacks of their own.

Cornwall put up a good fight to defend their territory, but Somerset ended the half with the only score as the ball bounced between two away players and was plucked by their right winger to fly into the goal area.

Attacks kept coming in from Somerset but Cornwall were able to hold out until the final quarter of the game when they began to tire, allowing the home side to run in several tries.
