JOYFUL scenes were had at The Rec on Sunday as Penryn’s Under 13s pulled off a fantastic 37-16 win against Redruth.

When the teams met at the same ground last season, the hosts left with a narrow victory, but the youngsters from Penryn were determined to reverse this result.

Penryn kicked off and chased down the ball immediately with success as the pack turned it over with good rucking.

A quick ball opened up the chance for Sam Price who made no error with it and dotted down the first of four tries in his man-of-the-match performance.

Redruth came back at Borough with their pack keeping possession before fizzing the ball out wide for them to score in the corner.

This led to a 15 minute period were both packs worked very hard on the same pitch used regularly by the host club’s senior team.

Both sets of players tackled excellently while Penryn’s backs made ground with the ball and the Reds able to gain territory with their route one tactics.

It was the hosts who scored next with their forwards providing power to push the ball over the line on the wing.

The heads of Penryn players did not go down though and before the interval Price scored his second try after good work in set pieces by the visitors.

Borough’s pack increased the intensity in the second half with Archie Bawden doing a fantastic job of leading several driving mauls.

This excellent forwards play helped Price score two tries in the space of six minutes to open a decent lead, with his final dot down seeing him sprint from the halfway line to go over, breaking three tackles en route.

More good tackling kept the Reds at bay and quick balls passing through Penryn’s backs was proving too hot for the hosts to handle with Dan Price touching down in the famous Hellfire Corner.

Despite trying to battle back, Redruth lost possession against Penryn’s back who were defending brilliantly.

Another attacking opportunity was set up for them after they chased down Sam Ahearne’s massive kick from their own territory.

After dominating a series of scrums, line-outs and loose balls, a counter ruck near Hellfire Corner got the next score with Jack Truen benefiting from the open space to go under the posts.

It was a great team try to cap off a fine performance which was not blighted by a late Redruth score.
