CONDITIONS were perfect for this friendly match between local rivals Truro and Falmouth and the small crowd who watched were treated to a competitive, open game of rugby which both sides can be proud of, writes Jeff Maddern.

Truro opened the scoring with two quick tries to run up a 10 point lead, but it was all Falmouth from then on who scored 34 points without reply playing some of the best rugby witnessed at the Recreation ground this season.

Truro caught Falmouth napping, cutting through their defence with two tries in as many minutes of the opening exchanges, but were unable to add any further points from the conversions which were both missed. From then on Falmouth began to boss the game by controlling the set pieces and having the lion’s share of territory and possession.

Mike Trevelyan broke the ice with a well controlled old fashion foot rush to win the sprint for the touchdown under the posts. He converted his try and ‘The One & All’ were back in the game at 7-10. Falmouth`s backs, Pete Collett, Dan Hinchcliffe and Tom Edmonds began to play some excellent rugby cutting the Truro defence to shreds and after some good build up work Pete Collett scored the first of his brace of tries to put Falmouth in front by four points as Trevelyan added the extras.

The best was yet to come and the loyal supporters were treated to some quality play in the second half as Falmouth threw the ball around attacking the opposition from every area of the pitch to score four scintillating tries. Phil Morgan, James Dobson, Dan Hinchcliffe and Pete Collett are the worthy try scorers but the build up play to all of them was a series of whole team interpassing movements that made great entertainment.

Truro were competitive throughout the game and showed their resilience to score the last try, a fine back movement which Tom Carne finished off in the town corner. Man of the match was awarded to Dan Hincliffe.

The One & All play Bodmin this Saturday 2.30pm kick off at the Recreation Ground.
