WITH their last two fixtures having been cancelled, Falmouth were keen to get back on the pitch, play some rugby and blow away some cobwebs. Wadebridge were the opposition, and were excellent hosts, and Falmouth were more than happy to make the journey and fulfil this fixture. Whilst the grass on the pitch may have been a little bushy the weather was superb and the sun shone for the kick-off. Unsurprisingly the home side had the better of the early exchanges, retaining possession and driving hard at every opportunity. Falmouth defended well but eventually Wadebridge found their way through and opened the scoring. Giving away a little bulk in the forwards meant that Falmouth were under real pressure at the set piece but made up for it in the loose, earning several turnovers when the home side threatened to break free. Both sides had positive rugby attitudes and attacked with gusto when in possession, only stout defences kept the score down and no better example of this was when Falmouth held up a Wadebridge player over the line and cleared the danger. This move alone exemplified the effort both sides were putting into the game. Nevertheless, as in their first game of the season against Wadebridge, Falmouth found themselves four tries down at the break and starring at a good beating at the hands of their north county opponents. However, Falmouth claimed the restart and immediately set off down field, keeping the ball alive and stretching the home sides defence. This time they were rewarded and Falmouth were on the scoresheet through Guy Brooks. This galvanised the visitors and gave them the belief they needed to turn the game and make it a real contest. This was not missed by Wadebridge who began to unravel at the revitalised opposition, though not before capitalising on some lapses in concentration to add to their own try count. But Falmouth still had a couple more tries to score themselves, in his first season with the club Isaac Adewole finished off a great attacking move before Guy added his second to leave the final score 36 to 21 in favour of the home side. Falmouth team: Isaac Adewole, Macsen Osmond, Jacob Allies, Gabe Gentile, Guy Brooks, Japser Roebuck, Toby Duncan, Sennen Addinall, Max Van-Dinther, Finlay Wood, and Jamie Millar. Falmouth U13s are still looking for new players and anyone interested in joining this motley bunch should approach the club (normal training 10am every Sunday at Falmouth RFC).
