A FANTASTIC game of youth rugby was enjoy by the Under 13 sides from Falmouth Eagles and St Ives.

The latter left the Recreation Ground with a 28-26 victory to their name, but the game was a joy to watch as the lead changed hands four times.

Both teams, who had 12 players each, went about the match with equal amounts of passion and entertained the crowd.

It was the hosts who drew first blood when straight from the kick-off, they charged into St Ives’ 22 and kept pressure on until a quickly taken penalty saw them over.

However, the away team showed they were not to be outdone and from the restart set up camp in Falmouth’s half.

They eventually got their first try after dominating a scrum on the 22m line before scoring a second soon after as they exploited a gap on the blindside.

Falmouth regained their composure and patient build-up play and quick rucking stretched the Saints’, opening a gap to level the scores.

Guy Brooks then sliced through the midfield just before the half time break to get the Eagles back in front.

In a slower second period, it took a while for either side to settle back into rhythm.

Eventually Falmouth gained a foothold in the St Ives half and after an infringement was spotted at the breakdown, the hosts sped through the defence to add a fourth try.

St Ives were not cooked yet and made good use of a wind to blowing along the pitch to gain decent field position, setting up a move which caught the home defence off guard for their third try.

With time running out, the visitors put boot to ball again and get a series of drives going close to the Eagles’ goal-line.

Their relentless attitude kept them knocking on the door before a lapse in concentration let them in for the match winning score.
