PENRYN put their recent troubles behind them, to record a routine victory over local rivals Falmouth in the annual Boxing Day match.

The home side may have smelt blood following disappointing defeats for Borough at the hands of Wellington and St Ives but the occasion seemed to inspire the visitors, who eased to a comfortable win.

Borough have struggled all season in the opening quarter, struggling to get a foot hold and often allowing their opponents to build strong leads, but it was a different Penryn against their neighbours.

The visiting Borough outfit put in a controlled and disciplined display in the difficult conditions, rounding it off with an excellent try from Josh Chambers who scored when seemingly nothing looked on.

James Salisbury converted well and Penryn had a deserved lead.

The remainder of the half was dictated by the poor weather and was a scrappy affair, but Penryn held firm in defence repelling several Falmouth attacks and not giving away dull penalties that often kill the Borough.

Having already laid an excellent platform in the set piece, the forwards were working hard around the park and were further rewarded, when Matt Williams rumbled over for Penryn's second score.

Salisbury converted excellently again to leave the score at 14-0 going into the second period.

Falmouth started the second 40 strongly and were camped on the Penryn line for much of the early exchanges, forcing penalties where they opted for the corner and their strong driving maul game.

Time after time though Penryn dealt with the danger and cleared their lines.

As the weather further deteriorated so too, did the quality of the spectacle as well as the chance of a Falmouth comeback.

The home team showed up proudly, but could not break Penryn down.

Borough took the game away from the hosts in an excellent five minute spell, largely down the impact from the strong looking bench.

Great work in defence this time from Chambers drew a Falmouth error, quick thinking and excellent hands from captain George Jones, put flanker Tom Hoban in for Penryn's third.

The conversion from replacement Rob Banks was wide, but Penryn were not done.

Another surging attack from Penryn got them close to the line and this time it was replacement Chris Instance who powered over.

Banks converted this time and Penryn were out of site.
