RUSSELL Lawrance believes there will be no grudges bared by either side when Penryn take on Torquay Athletic on Saturday.

The teams will meet at the Memorial Ground for the Tribute Western Counties West clash, which kicks-off at 2.30pm.

It will be the first time they have played each other since a decision was made to replay the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Controversy was wrapped around the first game on October 4 when Athletic claimed not to have a replacement front row forward available to them.

With uncontested scrums being forced into the match, the Devon side went onto win the tie 22-21.

After the game, Borough submitted an appeal as Torquay player Jonathan Woodhead was on the bench and had played as a prop earlier in the season.

This appeal was successful and saw a replay organised on November 8 which Borough comfortablly won 32-13 in what was a feisty affair.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, Penryn’s head coach is not expecting any histrionics to show through.

Lawrance, pictured above, said: “The main issue for both sides will be getting four or five points.

“The result is the important thing for both of us and anything else will just be peripheral in my opinion.

“It was well documented what happen at Torquay earlier in the season.

“But my belief is both sets of players and coaches will just want to get on with playing rugby.”

Since the rematch, Penryn have been on a poor run of form with just one win out of their last six.

Their form has seen the side drop to tenth in the table and just above Athletic.

With this in mind, Lawrance said he is hoping his side take the opportunity on Saturday to get back on track.

“It is a perfect game for us to get a win against a side we should beat,” he said.

“What we are suffering from at the moment is a lack of confidence.

“On top of that, we have also been lacking consistency throughout the season.

“Things like injuries and players being unavailable for certain games have been compounding factors in all of this.

“But the lads need to keep focused on what is ahead and know that there is no need to panic because we’ve only just reached the halfway point of the season.”
