A BLISTERING first half display helped Helston complete their end of the bargain as they look to stay in Tribute Cornwall One.

The hosts ran in five tries inside the opening 40 minutes in their relegation scrap at Clodgey Lane against Stithians to set up the 36-23 victory.

With the team's starting the day in sixth and seventh places, whoever lost would drop into the Cornwall Two division in 2015/16.

Stithians do have one more match to play, but this is next Saturday against Newquay Hornets, who have rampaged through the league with no losses and the champions crown already theirs, so the future looks bleak with only a bonus point win good enough to keep them up now.

Helston got off to the perfect start with converted tries in the first 12 minutes from Ross Williams and Bobby Conroy-Smith.

Visiting fly-half Martin Strick replied back with a penalty, but immediately the hosts responded with lock Will Thompson dotting down from the restart.

This went unconverted and Strick slotted home another penalty before Williams got his second try of the day after a fine break by Pete Mabbott and the half was capped off by Warwick adding seven points himself.

Having gone 33-6 up by the interval, Helston took their foot off the gas for the second period and Stithians chipped away at the deficit, making it to ten points behind.

A penalty by Strick was added to by a try from the fly-half, who was brilliantly directing traffic on the attack, and loosehead prop Ryan Burley dotted down in injury time.

The pack of Stithians had dominated the second half, but it was the home team who kicked the final points with the last play of the game when Warwick fired a penalty between the posts from a fairly central position.
