GRAHAM Dawe said there is “no conflict” between his dual roles with Cornwall and Plymouth Albion.

The former England international spoke to media on Monday evening as the county’s senior side met up for the first time this season ahead of their Bill Beaumont Cup campaign.

In January, Dawe rejoined the coaching staff at the struggling Greene King IPA Championship club shortly after they avoided going into administration.

He has previously played for Albion and also was a coach at the Brickfields between 1999 and 2011.

When asked about taking on the role alongside his duties at Cornwall, Dawe admitted it has not been easy but does not feel it will be a big problem.

Dawe said: “Overall there is no conflict between my job here and what I’m doing at Plymouth.

“I haven’t been able to see so much of the games in Cornwall over the last couple of months, which is a bit of a disadvantage.

“But hopefully I should be able to see a few games over the next few weeks as there are some free Saturdays with Albion not playing.”

Cornwall’s County Championship season starts on May 9 when they travel to Gloucestershire before heading to Kent a week later.

They then have their only home game at Redruth against Hertfordshire with the final taking place at Twickenham on May 31.

Looking ahead to the games, Dawe said he expecting a tough but exciting competition.

“After my first year last season, no doubt the expectancy will be just as high as ever,” he said.

“Getting to Twickenham again, if that is our ultimate goal, will be even harder than before.

“We have only three games, so it is very hard to get continuity and as a coach, you always want consistency in performance and availability.

“That’s where the shirt comes into play and it is the desire of those guys who want to put on the jersey which will hopefully raise their performance.”
