EGGS will make their first appearance at the Penryn Easter 7s tournament for the first time since 2012 when they won the competition.

The team who formed in the town 14 years ago have confirmed they will be participating in the annual event at the Memorial Ground on April 5 as part of their schedule over the summer.

Alongside this, the side will also be defending their title at the Newquay 7s and entering the South West 7s, Frome 7s, Creative 7s and SW7s at Exeter’s Sandy Park.

Team manager Richard Jackson said the Eggs’ aim for Penryn is to have fun and enjoy the day.

Jackson said: “For me Penryn RFC is the spiritual home of Cornish 7s and to sustain a tournament for well over a quarter of a century and deliver year-on-year is a massive achievement by the club and Dermot Shier, the head organiser.

“We have a couple of props travelling from France who are definitely not designed for high level 7s and some young lads we’ve not yet had a look at who are one’s for the future.

“Going past Easter and into June and July, the squad will be much more elite level focussed and geared towards competing in high level 7s with a view of winning tournaments.”

Returning as head coach will be Ian Morgan, the current Cornwall assistant coach, while Camborne’s Taron Peacock will have the captain’s armband again.

The team will also be raising money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and Balls To Cancer charities over the summer.
