CAMBORNE completed their home South West One programme with a deserved victory in a typically error strewn end of season contest against third placed Bridgwater.

Before the match, the club showed their gratitude to their growing band of sponsors and advertisers hosting these generous local businesses at a buffet in their Lounge Bar.

On the field, Town were again particularly well served by some of their younger players with prop Andrius Zachorovas impressing and 18-year-old Kieran Westlake enjoying a fine debut.

The Cherry and Whites dominated the opening exchanges with lock James Goldsworthy and number eight David Roberts running strongly, but had nothing to show for it as David Mankee could not find the posts with a brace of penalty shots.

After the visitors had enjoyed a good share of possession, the home side eventually got in front as the interval neared.

Stealing possession at the back of a Bridgwater scrum the ball found its way to Mankee, who slipped a pass to outstanding centre Westlake with work to do to crash over under the posts for his first senior try.

Mankee’s regulation conversion made it 7-0 at the break.

The visitors with centre Rob Allen impressing had a series of close range attacks in the third quarter playing down the slope, but handling errors and resolute home tackling with Westlake and full-back Gareth Mankee to the fore ensured the score line remain unchanged.

Going into the closing stages, the Cherry and Whites made the game safe with a second converted try.

As they moved the ball along their backs skipper Steve Kenward held the ball in midfield just long enough to release flying left wing Alex Ducker cutting in off his flank to scorch over.

Fly-half Mankee’s well judged angled conversion made it 14-0.

Late on the home side added further gloss when a charge by flanker Neil Stanleick took play to the ten metre line and from the resulting long range penalty award Mankee coolly slotted the kick.
