REIGNING champions Camborne had to work hard to see off Bodmin in the Tribute Cornwall Cup quarter finals.

The Cherry and Whites ran in six tries on Saturday to secure their place in the semis where they will face either Truro or Pirates Amateurs at home.

However, their hosts provided a stern test for Town on a heavy pitch.

Another reshuffle was required for Camborne before the match with Cameron Bone filling in as a centre as several regulars are injured.

Tony Whittle returned to the second row while James Goldsworthy switched to the back row.

Following an even opening quarter, full-back Grant Thirlby put Town ahead as he raced down the left touchline before sliding in at the corner.

Bodmin grabbed a penalty score soon after, but Rob Floyd extended the lead as he rounded off some slick passing to touch down out wide.

Each side scored a converted try before half time with Goldsworthy going over for the visitors before Bodmin replied almost immediately to make it 17-10 at the break.

In the second period, Town looked to be pulling away from their opponents when Callum Moyle scored a try on his debut to help open a 14 point gap.

But Bodmin put in another shift up front with a long range drop goal and an unconverted try bringing them just six points behind the cup holders.

They would not add to their score though as the Cherry and Whites showed why they have won the competition two years in a row to see the game out.

A series of drivers knocked the home side back to allow flanker Neil Stanleick to go over before Bone made the most of his day at centre to crash over in the final play of the match.
