CAMBORNE ended their recent run of four defeats with an emphatic ten try victory over Cullompton on Saturday, writes Martin Symons.

The win sees the Cherry and Whites still occupying fourth spot in the South West One table having moved closer to Bridgewater who returned home pointless from their clash at Bideford.

A crucial factor for Camborne is they still have to play both teams at the Rec.

Town welcomed back Richard Kevern at centre and with Sam Bartle taking a break from playing, Stuart Milliner took over the hooker’s duties.

With the Recreation Ground in fine condition, the home side opened strongly building up a 19-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

After a driving maul was halted illegally, centre Steve Kenward crashed over from close range on seven minutes for the first of the scores.

Soon after number eight Dave Roberts showed his strength to power over near the posts.

David Mankee, pictured below, booted the regulation conversion and then added the extras to an individual effort from Alex Ducker, who followed up his own kick ahead to gather and dot down.

The visitors then enjoyed a good spell of territory and possession and deservedly narrowed the deficit to only five points by the half hour mark with a brace of converted tries.

However, on the half time whistle scrum-half Taron Peacock raced away from a quick tap penalty before exchanging passes with the supporting Mankee to romp over and grab the bonus point try.

Fly-half Mankee’s conversion made the score 26-14 at the interval.

Straight after the break the Cherry and Whites went out of sight as first Peacock sent replacement flanker Neil Stanleick charging over out wide and then Ashley Lawton dived in from a close range maul for 36-14.

Full-back Ducker then showcased his pace and ball skills to complete his hat-trick with two further touchdowns in the 55th and 65th minutes with Mankee adding the extras to the latter.

In the closing stages, Camborne added further gloss to their victory when lock Lawton barged over to bag his second of the afternoon for Mankee to convert and late on Ducker served up an opportunity for young replacement wing Gareth Mankee to get his first Cherry and White senior try.

Cullompton are rock bottom following the loss and Clevedon’s win at St Austell.

Town’s longest away trip of the season awaits them next on Saturday at they travel to Drybrook.
