CAMBORNE School of Mines ran in eight converted tries against Helston on Saturday.

Despite this though, they had to make do with 55 points to their name rather than the 56 they should have got as the referee had made a mistake and marked the score as 55-17.

It did not take any points away from the overall performance of the attacking CSM team with a hat-trick coming from Daniel Reaney alongside a brace of tries by Daniel Macfarlane.

Sebastian Harris, Jack Hirst and Rob Cockroft also entered Helston’s goal area during the 80 minutes.

The visitors’ scores came from two converted tries from Peter Mabbott and Craig Saunders plus a Calvin Warwick penalty.

When the sides met earlier this season in what was the second game of the campaign, they played out a low scoring yet entertaining 7-7 draw.

This time though the home side had too much pace and power in their ranks for Helston to contend with.

With two wins in a row, the young students side sit in fourth spot in the Tribute Cornwall One with an eye on the teams above them as they push for promotion.

However, league leaders Newquay Hornets have opened up a 16 point gap above CSM and are also 11 points clear of second place.

Helston meanwhile sit two spots above bottom in the table with just two wins to their name so this season.

They face another tough challenge in their next match when Veor, currently occupying third place, visit Clodgey Lane on Saturday.

A difficult task awaits the students too as they travel to second place Illogan Park.
