DARREN Jacques has confirmed he will not be leaving Truro - after much speculation he would be joining Falmouth.

The former Cornwall forward who has been deployed as both a prop and number eight at St Clement's Hill since joining the Tribute Western Counties West club was the centre of speculation suggesting he would head to the Eagles next season.

However, when quizzed by the Packet about his future, the 34-year-old confirmed he had decided to stay put with Truro, with coaching duties being added to his workload.

He went onto say there was more than one club after his signature for the 2015/16 campaign.

Jacques said: "I can confirm that I will not be leaving Truro this summer and am not going to Falmouth.

"An offer was made by Falmouth which would give me a good opportunity to do some coaching, but I felt my loyalty was with Truro and that was how I came to my decision.

"I was also approached by St Ives about joining them as a player-coach, but I happy to stay at Truro."

Before joining the Chiefs in 2014, Jacques spent nearly a decade at National League Two South side Redruth, were he was a star performer.

He left the club though after the board told players they could not afford to pay their players, the third time in as many years they had been forced into this position.

In the past Jacques has also skippered the Cornwall side in the County Championship and was part of the team which lost to Lancashire in the final at Twickenham last season.
