Falmouth 19, Tiverton 17

Falmouth look to be back to winning ways after they narrowly defeated Devonshire side Tiverton in the Tribute Western Counties West Division.

Early tries from Tom Job and Tom Spiller saw the Eagles take the lead before 20 minutes was even on the clock.

This win end a seven game losing streak after a very tough November which saw them play every team at the top.

Spiller got Falmouth off to a good start after his clever pick and go from a ruck allowed him to dive in over the line and collect Falmouth’s first try of the match before Justyn Irons converted to make it 7-0.

Tiverton hit back just before the half hour mark when scrum half Jack Sampson picked from a ruck and darted through a gap in the defence just right of the posts. Matt Down converted the try making the scores read 7-7.

But Falmouth went back in the lead only 10 minutes later this time through winger Job after quick hands from Lee Humphreys and Irons allowed to Job in to score his first try of the game and make it 12-7.

Tiverton has an early penalty in the 47th minute converted by Down from straight in front of the posts to make it 12-10.

But the Eagles remained stubborn and scored their third of the game on 53 minutes through Andrew Geach, after he bulldozed through the Tiverton backline to score under the posts, which was easily converted by Irons.

The away side then went over for their second try of the game to make it 19-15 after several phases close to the line. Winger James Newman found himself in space as the ball was spun out of the ruck and he dived over in the corner and Down’s great kick added the extra two points to set up a tense finish.
