NEW faces have been brought into Penryn’s ranks as the club announced the signing of three players before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Coming onboard for Borough are fly-half Martin Strick and prop Ryan Burley, both joining from recently relegated Tribute Cornwall One side Stithians, alongside winger Jack Hesketh, who was not attached to another club.

The latter two have already been in training with Borough and featured for their Saracens side who comfortably beat Illogan Park 50-12 on Saturday.

Strick is expected to begin working with the club this week.

Head coach Russell Lawrance said he was very pleased to have all three coming into the side.

Lawrance said: “We have always been on the lookout for the right sort of players to join the team.

“In Martin and Ryan’s case, it was the right time for them to take up an opportunity like this with Stithians being relegated.

“They both had to make their minds up about coming to this level and everything was right for them to come onboard.

“Jack (pictured below) was a colt here and has been without a club for a little while due to work commitments, but things have changed for him and it is great to have him here.”

He went on to say he is hoping to see the trio make an impact on the club immediately, adding they will be in contention for first team spots.

“I’m not the sort of guy who will just go and sign 17 players for the hell of it,” Lawrance said.

“I want to bring in the right sort of players who can fit into the first team, so if they all train well, there is no reason why I wouldn’t include them in the first team straight away.”

The club’s head coach also hopes the players will help with the rebuilding process currently going on at Borough.

Since he and Marek Churcher came in as coaches last summer, they have been looking to develop young players into the first team.

It is hoped this will lead to greater success in the future and Lawrance believes green shoots are starting to appear.

Lawrance said: “Rebuilding at any level of sport takes time.

“It is all about getting it right at the time and as we have said throughout the season, this is a long journey we are taking to future proof the club.

“All the players know the rules of engagement we have set and me and Marek are working with players at all skill levels in the club to make improvements.

“Hopefully with our win against Tiverton on Saturday, we can now kick on to the end of the season and have a strong pre-season as well.”
