RUSSELL Lawrance said Penryn are showing signs of “maturing” after a brilliant display on Saturday.

Borough blasted past a high-flying Tiverton side in a rearranged Tribute Western Counties West League game, with the home side winning 31-15 with four tries to boot.

Since taking over the head coach role at the Memorial Ground in the summer, Lawrance has been building working on developing younger players in the squad with an eye on the future.

This has led to indifferent form on the pitch, with just one win on the road but seven victories at home.

Reflecting on Saturday’s result, Lawrance believes it is a sign things are really coming together on the pitch.

Lawarance said: “After the final whistle, I felt very proud of the whole performance from the side.

“The discipline and concentration shown was that of a side who have become more mature and that is something I am very, very happy to see.

“This season the lads have worked really hard and the win against Tiverton was their just desserts and is a step up for them.”

Penryn’s head coach emphasised the improvement he feels has been made in the discipline side of the game by the players.

“They have always had the talent and ability,” he said.

“But their game management has needed work.

“What impressed me on Saturday was the fact the guys did not give away silly penalties or unforced errors and that is good to see.”

On Saturday, Penryn travel to Plymouth for a match against Devonport Services.

The provisional matchday squad was confirmed on Tuesday evening.
