A FRIENDLY was played by Penryn Saracens and Helston to close out their seasons on Saturday at the Memorial Ground.

The spirit of rugby was for all to see around the pitch as before the game, members of Penryn and Falmouth’s teams willingly swapped their usual shirts for the blue and white hoops of Helston to help put a side together.

Despite the soggy conditions which surrounded the area, it was a high scoring match as 12 tries were run over the whitewash, with eight for the hosts helping them to a 56-25 win.

Dotting down for Borough were Adam Hughes and Jules Kennedy, who both bagged braces, while one each was scored by Gareth Tedstone, Oskar Fields, George Mitchell and Jack Heazelton.

It was also a very good day for fly-half James Salisbury who brushed off the tough conditions and booted home all eight conversions.

Helston did not show a lack of desire and bagged four tries of their own with Pete Mabbott and James Tugg-Wilson getting the pick of them.

After the match, Saracens’ team manager Jack Thomas said: “This match was a great way to cap off what has been a fantastic season for us. It was an enjoyable game to watch and I would like to thank every player who has been involved with the side this season.”

Niall Devenish, Helston’s coach, was also full of praise despite the result.

“The game was not about winning, it was about playing rugby,” he said.

“I would like to thank those from Penryn and Falmouth who gave us a helping hand to put a side out in a game played in the right spirit.”
