Falmouth II 0, Penryn Saracens 26

Penryn Saracens made the short trip back up the road to play Falmouth second team in the Duchy Cup and came away with a satisfying 26-0 victory.

Both teams played their part in a well contested game played in good spirit with Penryn enjoying the upper hand against their local rivals for the third time this season.

The scrummage was a feature of Penryn’s dominance. The game was well refereed by Dan Thurgood in the bright sunshine and the Falmouth pitch was a credit to the home club after the recent rain.

It took nearly 25 minutes for Penryn to post their first points with Kirk Oldfield getting over the line.

Callum Hinchley added the extras. Prior to that Penryn could have scored many more but small mistakes led to chances being missed.

The second score came quickly after the restart. Jim Henderson finished off a powerful drive up the field by forwards and backs contributing well. Hinchley added the extras.

Just before half time Henderson got his second, with Hinchley adding his third conversion to take the score to 21-0.

It took 25 minutes into the second half for Penryn to add to their score. Shaun Johnson spotted a gap and drove through to score an unconverted try.

The work rate and effort of young forwards Howson, Bush, Nelson and Wild alongside regulars Nimmo, McInnes and Cockerill provided plenty of ball and maintained the momentum for regular attacks on the Falmouth line. Most of the game was played in or around the Falmouth 22 metres.

Hinchley and Paine maintained their consistent week in, week out performances and ensured that Tullen, Graffy, Tyrell and Al Richards had plenty of chances to use the ball.

As the scoreline suggests, Penryn defended well and denied Falmouth the chance to get back in the game, which was a good advert for second team rugby.
