With less than a month to go the third Pendennis Cup (2nd – 7th July) is shaping up to be the best yet.

Organised by Pendennis Shipyard every two years, in 2012 the regatta will welcome 14 yachts measuring a total of over 430m in length to the waters of Falmouth Bay.

During the week Pendennis will be entertaining 1,000 crew and guests over four days of challenging racing and six days of social events. Guests include executives from the superyacht industry, superyacht Owners, Crew and Captains, national and international media, bringing Falmouth into the spotlight within the worldwide superyacht circuit.

Local companies and suppliers attended a presentation evening at Falmouth Poly on Tuesday 29th, which provided an insight into the regatta and the plans for the week, as well as an opportunity for all interested parties to meet in each other in the run up to the event. This included The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club which always provides invaluable support and advice planning and managing the week’s racing. This year they will be working alongside chief race officer Peter Craig to ensure the racing is both challenging and safe.

Naturally there are numerous companies from within the superyacht industry that are supporting the Pendennis Cup however Pendennis has recruited local companies and suppliers where possible to assist in making the week a success. These include The Stay Café managed by Cornish Cottage Holidays, Falmouth BIDS, Global Factor 2, St Michael’s and The Royal Duchy with evening entertainment showcasing the Rick Steins, Princess Pavilions, Pendennis Castle, The Ghurka Restaurant and The Chain Locker pub.

Berthing facilities for the fleet will be at Port Pendennis Marina, where all the yachts will be moored during the week, and visible from a hospitality marquee on Events Square. On the water Cockwells Modern and Classic Boatbuilding are providing a beautiful classic launch for our VIP guests to watch the racing at close quarters.

The range and quality of organisations supporting the 2012 Pendennis Cup are testament to the world-class reputation the regatta has developed, showcasing the best of Cornwall alongside some of the most dramatic sailing conditions in the world.
