It has been a good day's racing for Ben Ainslie in the finn class at London 2012 today (Friday) as he closed in on Jonas Hogh Christensen heading into Sunday's medal race.

The Falmouth sailor finished a point behind Hogh Christensen is the first race, but crucially won the second race two points ahead of the Dane.

Ainslie went into the final two races of the series warning Hogh Christensen to 'watch out'. The Brit had been annoyed that the Dane, along with Pieter-Jan Postma, had forced him to do a penalty turn in race eight, which he deemed 'unfair'.

Ainslie told the BBC that the pair had 'made a mistake by making him angry'.

However, the race nine did not get off to a good start for angry Ben as he rounded the first mark in 11th, with Hogh Christensen up with the leaders.

But showing champion spirit Ainslie fought back to claim sixth spot overall. Hogh Christensen was one point ahead in fifth.

The second race of the day, and final race of the series, saw Ainslie get off to an amazing start to take the lead.

At the first mark Hogh Christensen was down in seventh, but the Dane battled back through the field and up to second spot.

At this point Ainslie, with a 150-metre lead, slowed down to try and upset the Dane's race and push him further back in the field.

It was a crucial move as Hogh Christensen dropped to third, with PJ Postma overtaking him.

Ainslie then accelerated away again to cross the line in first, with Postma, second, and Hogh Christensen, third.

It means the series is now tied going into Sunday's medal race. If Ainslie has a good race and finishes ahead of Hogh Christensen he will claim gold and become the greatest Olympic sailor of all time.
