Inter Company surf contest

The second annual UK intercompany surf and bodyboard challenge set to support the English team One of the key roles that the ESF plays is the organisation and support of the English teams for the annual European Surf Championships.

For 2009 the prestigious Eurosurf event will take place in Jersey in the Channel Islands in September.

As the associated and support costs for Jersey would be close to £10,000 and teams for the World and European Championships have traditionally been underfunded, the ESF is this year determined to fully support their English champions and help ensure that there is full financial backing for the Jersey trip.

As a result of the efforts of the ESF Surf School, the 2007 European Championships were the first time that the English Team was fully funded and last year, the concerted fundraising efforts drummed up £7,000 towards the extensive costs for England’s surfing elite.

The ESF has now announced their second annual surf industry inter-company fundraiser event.

The 2009 'ESF Intercompany Surf Battle' sponsored by Carve Magazine will take place on Fistral Beach on Sunday, July 26 and all surf companies are urged to sign-up and organise their teams straight away.

A packed schedule will see over 20 teams made up of staff and riders from surf companies, surf schools, surf shops, surf lodges and more will take part in a tag team contest.

Last year local PR companies and banks as well as electrical engineers and builders pitted their surfing skills against some of the best in an amazing day of support and excitement.

The Carnmarth's C Bar has already offered to sponsor the post-contest celebrations and Carve surfing magazine has stepped in to sponsor the competition and has offered to start the backing of the fundraising campaign to support the young surfers in the team.

On the night of the Surf Battle, the C Bar will host the ultimate off-duty BBQ and party that will run well into the night with some of Newquay's top DJs taking to the decks on the C Bar balcony.

A fundraising raffle will take place throughout the night and local companies and organisations of all types are being encouraged to step forward with contributions of all values to ensure that the there is plenty for people to bid for.

Rip Curl, the sponsor of the ESF surf school have had a new range of hoodies and t-shirts designed and are now on sale at the School - hoodies are £40 and T-Shirts are £20.

For each hoodie and T-shirt sold there will be a donation of £5 and £2.50 towards the English Teams Eurosurf expenses.

Pauly Jefferies, team coach for the English Team sais: “As the costs of training the team and taking them out to Jersey will be substantial we want to be sure that we're well ahead of the game and making the most of 4 months of fundraising time.

"Rather than a last minute gasp for backing, kicking off with the Intercompany Surf Battle at the end of July will ensure that everyone locally and in the industry is doing their bit to support the team and have a great day and night at the same time.

"We're looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces in the waves and at the after party and to seeing everyone make contributions, no matter how small or large, to support the determined youngsters who'll be representing their country at the prestigious championships at the end of the year.”

Individuals or companies who wish to contribute donations for the raffle should contact Rob@englishsurfschool.com and teams interested in entering the contest should do likewise.
