Second successive loss for Truro Cricket Club

Truro lost a second successive Jolly’s Drinks ECB Premier League game when they went down by 87 runs in dramatic fashion at leaders Werrington.

The home side were restricted to a modest 171 all out, after at one time being 113 for seven.

The Truro reply was a disaster from the outset. Alex Smeeth, in a devastating spell of straight, fast, left arm bowling, single handedly reduced the visitors to 25 for seven.

He clean bowled Jon Kent, Tom Sharp and Chris Hunkin first ball to make it three for three in the third over. He followed up by trapping Karl Van Rooyen and then bowling Tim Marrion and Chris Martin.

Smeeth then hit the stumps for a sixth time bowling Chad Ruddy to end with figures of seven for 16. James Walton made 34 and Chris Phillips got 10 to delay the inevitable, which came after 30 overs at 84 all out.

Earlier Werrington reached 50 without loss before Chris Phillips and Chris Hunkin took seven wickets between them. After Matt Robins made 50 it was a more than useful 38 from number nine Sam Hockin and 20 from Mark Hodgson that swung the momentum back. Hunkin took four for 25 with Phillips and Sharp taking three apiece. Truro are at bottom club Callington on Saturday.
