Truro crush Callington


Truro were given a good run for their money at Callington on Saturday before running out winners by 20 runs in the Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League. Truro got off to a good start with Jon Kent (36) and Chris Martin (16) putting on fifty.

When both were dismissed, along with Chris Hunkin for 0 the innings needed rebuilding. Tom Sharp (55) and James Walton (67) added a valuable 107 for the fourth wicket. Luke Davis ended with three for 39.

Callington lost Jamie Hatch for 11 and Jon Parsons for 8 with 42 on the board. The Davis brothers then combined to look to be taking the home team to victory.

They added 115 for the third wicket before Luke was caught and bowled by tom sharp for 41. Sharp then struck again to have Dan lbw for 88 that included a six and 12 fours. It was the turning point as Callington lost seven wickets for 45 runs to end on 202 for 9. Sharp and Hunkin both took two wickets. On Saturday much improved Newquay visit Boscawen Park.

GRAMPOUND ROAD 219-7 FALMOUTH SECONDS 131 Grampound Road continue to make the running at the top of County Division One. Some solid top order batting took them to 219 for 7 at home to Falmouth seconds.

After Dave Legge made 30 and Jake Preston 45 Dave Wilton made 33, Tom Hughes 30 and Ian Berridge 23 before being run out. Falmouth lost their first six wickets for 86 and were eventually dismissed for 131. Tom Tuner got rid of the openers and ended with three for 22 before Chris Roberts wrapped up the game with four for 36. On Saturday the ‘Road’ are at Luckett.

Grampound Road: 219-7 (J Preston 45, D Wilton 33, D Legge 30, I Berridge 23; L Hoban 3-58), Falmouth: 131 (M Johnson 25, G Rowe 23no; C Roberts 4-36, T Turner 3-22). Grampound Road (20 points) beat Falmouth (six) by 88 runs.

On Sunday Grampound Road went out of the National Village Cup with a seven wicket home defeat against Beacon.

Grampound Road: 190-8 (T Hughes 88. C Roberts 25, M Manuell 25; K Martin 3-21, K Thomas 2-44), Beacon: 191-3 (J Thomas 55, J Pook 39, K Thomas 24; L Sanders 2-29). Beacon beat Grampound road by seven wickets.

truro SECONDS gRAMPOUND SECONDS In division two Truro seconds suffered an 18 run home defeat to Grampound Road seconds. Grampound Road are at home to Menheniot on Saturday while truro travel to in form Liskeard.

Falmouth (19 points) beat Truro (six) by five runs.

truro fourths 153-9 mAWNAN 137 Ross Pascoe took five for 36 to bowl Truro fourths to a 16 run home win over Mawnan.

n Truro Cricket Club is mourning the death of committee member and popular ‘Irish Cornishman’ Paddy Hurley who has died at the age of 70 following a heart attack. The funeral is at Penmount on Friday at 10am.
