Falmouth sailor returns from global circumnavigation

A Falmouth sailor has arrived back after an epic trip around the globe.

Paddy Macklin took 17-months to complete the round-the-world journey and was escorted back into Falmouth Bay by his friend Steve Ransley.

The 52-year-old yachtsman, left for his high seas adventure in December 2009 and at one point was feared missing in bad weather

Mr Macklin was hoping to beat legendary sailor Sir Robin Knox Johnston's time for sailing solo non-stop around the world but after suffering damage in a storm he was forced to stop in New Zealand for repairs.

Greeted by friends and family at Custom House Quay, Paddy said next he wanted to sail the North West Passage in the same 27ft boat.
