THIS year is going to be the best yet, that is the message from the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association and the shoreside committee in charge of bringing Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week to the local community and visitors.

Preparations for events and activities are well advanced and this year promise to be bigger than ever. On the sailing side entries are flowing in, with over 60 keelboat class entries and 40 dinghy entries already received and over 350 yachts expected to enter for the week.

Things not to be missed this year include the Comet Trio Class National Championships, part of dinghy week. Not to mention the large classic yachts racing in the bay.

Also new for this year is the NORSI, a single printed document combining all of the notice of race and sailing instructions for all competitors. For further details on how to enter the regatta or to find the NORSI log on to www.falmouthweek.co.uk.

Landlubbers will also be spoilt for choice with daytime events held at locations all over Falmouth.

Visitors can enjoy markets on the Moor, daily family activities at the Events Square, as well as events at Pendennis Castle, the RNLI station and the Maritime Museum.

The annual garden party for friends of Princess Pavilion will be going ahead on Thursday, August 14 from 2pm to 5pm and all of the sailing races can be viewed from ashore at Pendennis Point, Gyllyngvase beach and St Anthony’s head. The evening entertainment promises to have a varied selection of bands, parties and events covering everyone’s tastes.

Highlights for the week at the Princess Pavilion include Gabriella Cilmi, Infadels and Art Brut and Stiff Little Fingers. At the Events Square people can look forward to the Pirate FM party night as well as the tradition Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week big two, the 70s and Caribbean nights! The Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2008 takes place from August 9 to 16 and this year organisers are pleased to announce the addition of the Pendennis Cup to the regatta week. Classic superyachts are being invited to take part in five days of racing to compete for the cup. For further information visit www.pendenniscup.com.

Falmouth Week is the second largest sailing regatta in the UK, rivalled only by Cowes Week.

Falmouth’s shoreside committee comprises representatives from the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Carrick district council, Falmouth town council and the University College Falmouth. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, English Heritage, Falmouth and District Hotels Association, Port of Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, Port Pendennis Partnership and Pendennis shipyard are also represented.

HOST clubs for Falmouth week include Helford River Sailing Club, Mylor Yacht Club, Restronguet Sailing Club, Flushing Sailing Club, Flushing Sailing Club, St Mawes, Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, Falmouth.

There will be full updates of all sailing and shoreside events on line at thepacket.co.uk throughout the week.

The Falmouth and Penryn Packets, published each Wednesday, will also be offering updates and more throughout the event.
