This year's Tregony pantomime has been described as a huge success.
Here is a review of the production of Dick Whittington which was performed on February 14.
Tregony's thirtieth show was certainly one to be proud of. Dick Whittington was a real success with all the expected elements of a classic pantomime. The Clockhouse Players brought the tale of a young lad and his puss to life with their customary gusto and cheer.
Local references delighted the audience whilst contemporary side-swipes at our current Mayor for London tickled the adults! The pace of the script was fast-moving and full of humour on many levels. Larger-than-life Dame Sarah adopted her lusty role with aplomb, peppering her dialogue with witty innuendo, whilst the ladies of the audience have now been shown how to wear this season's nautical look'! Colourful Barrow Boy Billy energetically encouraged the customary audience participation.
Dick himself cut a dashing and vivacious figure, and saved the day with the assistance of his charming tiger-footed' friend. Alderman Fitzwarren and his radiant daughter Alice played off each other wonderfully, and contrasted to the motley pirate crew, ably led by Long John Tin Foil.
No pantomime would be complete without a villainous anti-hero and his faithful side-kicks. Mohican-crested, leather-clad King Rat, together with his cackling duo, Nip and Tuck, attracted many well-deserved boos for their sinister plans. The remaining rat clan, however, were of a much more appealing nature, and the full participation of a brimming, well-rehearsed junior chorus was delightful.
The audience were carried along by an ingenious selection of music, including current chart hits, children's sing-a-longs and some absolute classics. There really was something for everyone, which demonstrated the undoubted skill and range of the musical team.
The technical skill and special effects gave this year's production a cutting-edge which literally kept the audience on the edge of their seat. From unexpected bangs to the magical appearance of the cockney-rhyming fairy, the technical team well surpassed the usual level of village panto.
Unreserved congratulations to the entire team - the undoubted hard work that has gone into the show has brought enjoyment to many, and we look forward with anticipation to your production next year.
