A Redhill organisation providing friendship and social contact for elderly people had its sixth birthday party last week in the Methodist Church, Gloucester Road, Redhill.
The Live at Home scheme was set up in 1997 and now runs shopping trips, outings, coffee mornings and holidays for 95 elderly people who live in their own homes in Redhill, Reigate and Merstham.
Volunteers started off taking just three members each year on a week’s holiday to Eastbourne and now they take 23 with a waiting list for other eager participants.
Coordinator Tanya Stafford said she was keen to make local people aware of the work Live at Home does and to recruit more volunteers to help with befriending, transport and fundraising.
She said: “Everyone knows about Age Concern and Help the Aged because they’re national charities.
“We’re just a small franchise but the social contact we provide for elderly people living in their own homes can be a real lifeline."
