A golden light fell over Helston on Flora Day as the Evening Dance made its way around the town.
What had been hazy – albeit very warm – sunshine earlier in the day burnt off any cloud coverage to reveal brilliant blue skies to end the day.
It proved one of the warmest Evening Dances on record for those taking part, although no doubt welcomed over the rain that has fallen on many previous years.
Returning at 5pm to take part were the dancers from the Morning Dance, once again led by Tom Mitchell, Amy Williams, Andrew ‘Andy’ Toy, and Melanie ‘Mel’ Toy.
Following a slightly reduced route, which does not include the very top of Meneage Street, or Wendron Street and Godolphin Road, the dancers wound their way through the town including in and out of a number of shops.

It was then on to Lismore Gardens - also a change from the morning route - for a break in the sunshine and some welcome refreshments, before the dance made its way back to the Guildhall.
Outside a huge crowd had gathered – one of the largest in recent memory – to see the end of the final dance of the day.
Upon entering the Guildhall the four stewards paired up to dance the last few steps themselves, before the leading four came back out as a single set, to do an encore.
As has become tradition, after the end of the dance, to cheers and applause, followed by shouts of ‘Oggy oggy oggy, oi oi oi’ Helston Town Band then performed an encore themselves – with another few rounds of the tune to end the day on a high.
