Charlie Bates The family of Charlie Bates are sorry to announce the passing of their father in York hospital on 23 April 2018 after a short illness. He was nearly 98 years old. He had fond memories of living on the Lizard peninsula and was one of the first employees at the Goonhilly Satellite station until he retired in 1985. He also enjoyed playing in local brass bands. After a few years in Spain he returned to Cornwall and lived in Perranaworthal before moving to East Yorkshire where he lived for the last five years. His funeral was held at Octon on 10 May.
