We are delighted to be launching the Cornwall Trade Awards 2002.


There has never been more to celebrate within the Cornish Construction Industry. The past 24 months have brought unprecedented challenges, and the construction industry has led the way in terms of operating safely and efficiently during a global pandemic.


Despite these challenges, our trades people have continued to excel in terms of projects and people, and it is time to reward the individuals, teams, and businesses who have gone above and beyond. We want to highlight the skills, experience, knowledge, and passion in the county of Cornwall, and we need you to nominate them!.


With categories for apprentices, tradespeople, organisations, employers plus some exciting awards for sustainability, female trade of year and inspirational trades person of the year, the awards offer the perfect way to celebrate tradespeople in Cornwall.


There are 13 categories in total – to nominate someone please click the relevant link below. We look forward to sharing their stories and creating a permanent record of all those incredible achievements.

The 13 award categories are:

Apprentice of the Year award:

An apprentice who is still studying or completed their apprenticeship in 2021, who shows a demonstration of academic success and on the job skills; as well as clearly understanding the sector they work in.

Builder of the Year award:

Builders who have gone the extra mile to make sure their workmanship and customer service is exemplary. Taking the clients brief and turning it into their expectations. From new builds to renovations and from extensions to remedial work, we are looking for that builder who cares about their work.

Female Trade of the Year award:

This award is open to any female working in a trade, each entrant needs to demonstrate why customers believe their business to be the best. We thought it was about time Cornwall recognised the vital and increasing role women are making in trades today.

Employer of the Year award:

Open to private and public sector organisations that can demonstrate engagement with their teams and the support and development of their workforce. This may be through apprenticeships, in-house training, flexible working, personal development, workplace wellbeing activity and teambuilding.

Sustainability award:

Key criteria are that actions have been taken over and above the normal requirements of people's jobs. Applications must provide evidence of impact, and of good leadership/championing practice in engaging and inspiring others. Environmental consideration for materials and sustainability is crucial.

Carpenter or Joiner of the Year award:

Designed to promote the highest standards of craftsmanship, this award category is designed to reflect the role of a carpenter/joiner and the standards that are expected within the industry. The art, craft, and practice of carpentry and joinery, a diverse and varied project portfolio. Select work based on projects from the last two years, working knowledge of wood, its various types and uses, business success and development.

Tiler of the Year award

Ability, passion for the job, pride, the determination to succeed and accept nothing less than your best work on every job. Also good people skills, it’s no good being the best tiler in the world if you are not professional in appearance and after you have finished the job.

Electrician or Electrical Contractor of the Year Award:

Presented to an Electrician/Electrical contractor who has outstanding technical skills, has a commitment to ongoing learning (upskilling) and safety, all of which stands them apart from their peers.

Painter/Decorator of the Year Award:

Recognise and celebrate those in the trade contributing to brilliant decorating throughout Cornwall. Range of skills from interior and external decorating, as well as working in a professional and clean environment.

Roofer of the Year Award:

Will be awarded to a roofer in recognition of their hard work and contribution to the roofing sector—through their approach, ability and skills.

Plumber or Heating Engineer of the Year Award:

Will recognise the achievements of the best plumber or heating contractors, consultants, suppliers, people, products and projects in Cornwall.

Inspirational Tradesperson of the Year Award:

A tradesperson who has gone the extra mile for a client or a fellow work colleague. Someone who people look up to and who inspires others to value the trade they work in.

Trade Organisation of the Year Award:

leading award for a trade association, recognising, rewarding and promoting best practice and innovation across the sector. Looking after it’s members and adding value back into the County.
