Swimming deer and giant ants are just some of the objects to be found at the You Are Here exhibition at Trelissick Gardens near Truro, The month-long public exhibition that brings together site-specific artefacts designed and built for an outdoor space.
This will be the eighth year that second year BA (Hons) Contemporary Crafts students at Falmouth University have collaborated with the National Trust.
The students were briefed to reflect Trelissick Garden’s history, connections with trade and its botanical collection. They also had to acknowledge the functions of the space as a garden, as an educational resource and as a theatre space. Finally they were asked to consider the type of visitor that Trelissick attracts and how their installations can engage both the young and old alike.
Falmouth University has worked closely with Tony Crosby, National Trust gallery organiser officer, in organising this event and Tony has spent several days working with the students, sitting in on presentations and undertaking one-to-one tutorials.
Support has also been given by Thomas Clarke, head gardener, and his colleagues, who played a crucial role in installing the work.
The pieces go on show in the gardens from May 10 to June 10.
