SHOULDER ARMS and|DIARY OF A LOST GIRL The Cornwall Film Festival and The Poly, Falmouth, are launching a major new project of silent film and live music events.

Funded by the Film Audience Network from the British Film Institute (BFI), these events will include a very special live| performance from local composer and musician Seamas Carey, with Charlie Chaplin’s World War One classic Shoulder Arms, followed by Wurlitza’s fast moving and thrilling soundtrack to GW Pabst’s 1929 |masterpiece Diary of a Lost Girl.

Shoulder Arms proved to be Chaplin's most popular film, a |hilarious but also bittersweet depiction of life in the First World War trenches. Seamas, who has developed a new score for this film, brings his unique voice to the mix, with piano and accordion for |accompaniment. Those who have seen him before love his style, and those who haven't - prepare to be astounded.

Classic FM’s Nick Bailey called Wurlitza’s performance a “masterstroke!” Screen idol Louise Brookes stars in the fast moving and thrilling, Wurlitza’s soundtrack accompanies the story of Thymian, as her life yoyos between episodes of lightness and innocence, darkness and despair. Moments of great comedy involve life in a reform school for fallen girls, headed by a villainous nun.

This gripping film defies |convention, confounding |expectations as joy and compassion are found in the most unlikely places.

Shoulder Arms with live music performance by Seamas Carey will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 7.30pm while Diary of a Lost Girl with live music performance by Wurlitza’s will be held on Saturday, November 22 at 7.30pm.
