A number of artists and craftspeople from across Falmouth, Helston and the Lizard area will be showcasing their work as they take part in this year's Open Studios Cornwall event.

The event, which starts this Saturday and runs all next week through to Sunday, June 5 sees artists inviting the public to come and view their creations and see their work in progress.

Free copies of the Open Studio catalogue are available at local outlets, and people are urged to support the exhibitions, a number of which which are being held at Mawgan and in and around St Martin on the Lizard Peninsula.

Jewell Arts will be showing the work of three artists at Tara, Langweath Lane, Mawgan, TR12 6AX from 11am to 4.30pm each day.

Rebecca Jewell will be showcasing her contemporary botanical painting in acrylic, landscape and seascape photography and original artworks, paints, photography and cards, while Simon Jewell, specialises in land and seascape oil paintings and capturing black and white photography.

Don Taylor will be also be showing his sculpture, Cornish serpentine and woodwork at the same venue.

Over at Lowenek Art Studio at Trewince, St Martin, TR12 6EE, there will be Pippa Alston with her pottery and painting work, along with Cat Rowe and Fiona Thomas who are both textile and mixed media artists, open 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm Sunday (closed Wednesday, June 1) while at Trewoon Studios, St Martin, TR12 6DT Carolyn Thompson will show her works with painting and printmaking inspired by Morocco, Greece and Cornwall, 11am to 5pm each day (closed June 4 and 5).

Sarah Trewhella will be presenting her painting and mixed media at Mudgeon Vean Studio, St Martin, TR12 6DB, alongside Clare Athene James, mixed media artist, and Sally Ould, ceramicist and mixed media artist, 10.30am to 4pm daily, and Emily Woods will have her textiles products, including aprons, teat towels and scarves, on display at Trethewey Cottage, St Martin, TR12 6EF from11am to 4pm daily (closed Friday, June 3 and Sunday, June 5.)

Other artists showing their work in the Helston area include paintings at the Jo Cottam Studio in Helston, David Crimmen with his paintings in Porkellis, and Julie Milton Artworks with paintings in Coverack.

A total of 327 artists, designers and makers from across Cornwall will throw open their studio doors over the week.

Project co-ordinator Karen Raymond said: “The pandemic has taught us much about ourselves and it is fascinating to see how this plays out in the artwork on view during this year’s event.”
