Christmas celebrations returned to Truro last week with Festive Friday, which included the annual Christmas Lights Switch-on.

Festive Friday, which took place on Friday, November 18, is sponsored by Great Western Railway and is brought to the city by Truro BID, in partnership with Truro City Council and Pirate FM.

As well as the Christmas Lights Switch-on, Festive Friday included other events to celebrate the start of the festive season.

As of 3pm Pirate FM’s Johnny Cowling and Lucy Start broadcasted out and about in Truro during the build-up to the much-anticipated lights switch-on.

When 7pm came around, the lights were switched on by Johnny Cowling, Lucy Start, Truro’s Town Crier Lionel Knight, cast members from Hall for Cornwall’s Christmas Show Treasure Island and others including Great Western Railway colleagues.

Following the switch-on, celebratory music took place on the stage and a short festive parade around Truro featuring performers, music and of course, Father Christmas in his sleigh.

Truro’s City Centre Christmas Lights are funded and installed by Truro Businesses Improvement District (BID) each year via the BID levy contributions from around 380 Truro Businesses.
