The Helford Marine Conservation Group is inviting anyone interested to join them when they celebrate their 30th birthday with a sustainable fish stew at Gweek Village Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 25.

The evening will begin with the group's AGM which will be followed by guest speaker James Duffy from Exeter University who will be looking at drones and suggesting why they aren’t all bad news for the environment.

A focus on seagrass ecosystems will be finding out how this low-cost rapidly developing technology is being used to map coastal environments in greater detail than ever before.

Entry is £4, with members and children free. Fish supper is £3 and must be booked in advance. Call 01326 340961 or email coordinator@helfordvmca.co.uk.

The Helford River was designated a conservation area and in 1988 and the Helford Marine Conservation Group was established. Today an enthusiastic committee organises a variety of events for both members and the public, details of which can be found on the association’s website helfordmarineconservation.co.uk. There is also a regular newsletter and a Facebook page.

Future events include the annual heron count on the Helford, a snorkel safari, rock pooling, including night rock pooling at Durgan and rock pool photography, and the conservation cruise up the Helford which annually attracts 100 people.
