Falmouth talent will feature strongly at this year's Penzance's Literary Festival, which is gearing up for its eighth edition with a star-studded line-up of special guests.
One of the Litfest's most hotly-anticipated events will be an evening of cutting edge poetry with poets Megan Chapman (MCMC Spoken), Anna Cathenka, Gee Middleton, Alexandra Aerlinn and Megan Lee-Yendell – all with strong connections to Falmouth.
Also appearing is the award-winning writer Charlotte Hobson, who lives on the Fal with her husband, the writer Philip Marsden. Charlotte’s first novel The Vanishing Futurist, which came out last year, has been shortlisted for the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction.
A Falmouth institution will be at the Penzance LitFest when the writers' group Telltales once again stages a special evening in the town's Admiral Benbow pub.
And Falmouth University lecturers David Devanny and Jerome Fletcher will be joined by local poet Andrew Fentham for two very special poetry performances in Penzance’s iconic Egyptian House.
Other top speakers at the Litfest include Stella Duffy, whose new book The Hidden Room is a gripping story of psychological suspense, while Tim Pears, author of In Place of Fallen Leaves will talk about his latest novel The Horseman. The acclaimed writer Cynan Jones will discuss his latest novel, The Cove, with travel writer Tim Hannigan and leading novelist Louisa Young will discuss her latest book, Devotion, with the Litfest’s patron, Patrick Gale.
On the performance and music front, among the major events the Litfest is staging this year is a centenary celebration of Cornwall's 'Poet Laureate', Charles Causley, with The Story Republic. Another famous wordsmith, and musical genius, David Bowie will be celebrated in a special evening featuring Nicholas Pegg, a leading Bowie authority, and some of the members of the acclaimed Bowie Lounge, who themselves have Falmouth connections.
The festival will also feature a host of other speakers, writing workshops, literary walks and musical performances.
