Joe Armstrong is giving a free demonstration of his original painting techniques at Truro Arts Company later this month.

Joe is a very well-known and popular local painter who uses Georgian oils to create his vibrant impasto Cornish landscapes.

In this demonstration visitors can watch him Joe begin and work on a painting.

He will talk through the different techniques he uses to lay out an image, how he mixes colours and applies the paint.

Talking about his painting style Joe said: “I love the texture of pure oil paint on canvas. I use a palette knife which stops my work being too precise. This gives my paintings a vibrant and spontaneous feel.

“I’m on a mission to develop my style in an attempt to keep my work looking fresh and contemporary. This may take some time, but I’m going to enjoy the journey.”

Guests can also ask him questions throughout the session and he’ll be on hand while they have a chance to experiment with the Daler Rowney paints themselves.

There will even be an opportunity to work on Joe’s own canvas for those feeling brave enough, and lots will be drawn at the end to choose a participant to keep the demo piece.

Joe will be running the event on Tuesday, August 28 and Friday, September 28 from 9.30am -11.30am.

The demonstration is free but spaces are limited so booking is necessary.
