Helston Makes It! at Helston Museum runs from September 8 – 22. It is focussed on traditional and contemporary making skills and there will be workshops, demonstrations and talks.

The launch will see a short animated film made by the pupils of Nansloe Academy. It carries a strong message about recycling and reducing the amount of waste we create. There will also be children’s activities and a Touch Craft exhibition of electronic textiles.

One of the workshops during the event is Make Helston a Better Blooming Town. Have a look at the photo alongside. The area shown, outside the library and job centre, could be made much more attractive, but do you have ideas on exactly what can be done? If you do, come along to a workshop at the museum at 10.30am on Thursday, September 20 or any time on September 22 to find out how to enter a competition that’s being run jointly with Helston in Bloom.

The Recycled Hats competition is a chance for imagination and skill to combine in making a new hat from an old one.
