Cornwall Music Service's brass team is welcoming a trumpet choir led by Paul Cosh (London Symphony Orchestra and trumpet professor) and the international award winning quintet 'Brass Spectrum'' from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) to the county in February.

The musicians are taking part in two concerts - on February 9 and February 10 - which follow successful visits by ensembles from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and London.

The first concert is at Truro Methodist Church at 7.30 pm on Friday, February 9, when the GSMD student trumpet choir and Brass Ensemble join Cornwall's Youth Brass and Percussion Ensembles. This is a unique opportunity to hear a variety of music written and arranged for trumpet choir. Cornwall Youth Brass and Percussion Ensembles are combining to present their programme in preparation for the regional stage of the National Festival of Music for Youth. Alongside Brass Spectrum, this will be a veritable brass bonanza!

The second concert is being staged at Truro Methodist Church at 1.10 pm. on Saturday, February 10. It will involve the GSMD student Trumpet Choir and Brass Spectrum with Junior Brass ensembles from Bodmin, Truro, Polperro and The Lizard. Cornwall Music Service promises a musical lunch hour listening and supporting the county's young brass players performing with and listening to the GSMD students.

Tickets are available on the door. They cost £5 (students £2) for the Thursday evening, and £3 (students £1) for Saturday lunchtime.

The event has been organised by Cornish musician Rob Frost (Probus CP, The Roseland Community School, Truro College; Roseland Rugby Club, Cornwall Youth Orchestra) with help from Cornwall Music Service. He will be playing in the trumpet choir.

Now in his final year at the GSMD, Rob said: "I have achieved so much thanks to the help of my teachers and friends in Cornwall. I just wanted to find a way of thanking them by bringing my friends down from the Guildhall and at the same time show young people in Cornwall what is possible for them to achieve even though we live in a geographically remote area. I am delighted that Paul Cosh is also supporting this project."

David Frost, the Cornwall Music Service brass team leader, said: "The Guildhall School of Music and Drama deservedly holds a world-wide reputation for the excellence of its brass department and I hope the general public as well as brass players will come to hear the Best of Brass from this esteemed conservatoire."
