English Touring Opera returns to Hall for Cornwall this April with two new productions, Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Mozart's The Seraglio (Die Entührung aus dem Serail), and a staged concert with waltzes, Johann Strauss's Spirit of Vienna (Wiener Blut).

ETO general director James Conway said: "After our successful season of modestly-scaled baroque opera, we are taking on a big Russian classic (Eugene Onegin) and a jewel-like Mozart comedy (The Seraglio), plus a fun-filled night of waltzing and champagne (Spirit of Vienna). In the Tchaikovsky we will field a cast of mature talents, favourites of our audience, and Seraglio and Spirit of Vienna will feature some of the most exciting young singers in the country, most of them new to ETO."

The Seraglio (Die Entührung aus dem Serail) is one of Mozart's most perfect confections. This comic tale set in an Ottoman harem features exquisite arias and ensembles, and transforming insights into the nature of love and forgiveness. Elizabeth Donovan will star as Constanza in ETO's new production, with Lorina Gore as her maid, Blonde, and Hal Cazalet (ETO's Orfeo,Tobias and Lysander) as her lover Belmonte. Newcomer Joshua Ellicott, who won this year's S-Hertogenbosch International Vocal Competition, will play Belmonte's servant Pedrillo. Baritone Richard Jackson takes the speaking role of Pasha Selim, with Welsh bass Sion Goronwy as his servant Osmin. The ETO orchestra will be conducted by experienced Mozart interpreter Gary Cooper, who conducted ETO's Alcina. Director of ETO's The Little Magic Flute Gavin Quinn directs, and sets and colourful period costumes will be created by Mexican designer Mauricio Elorriaga.

The Seraglio is at Hall for Cornwall, Truro, on Monday, April 2, at 7.30pm.

Eugene Onegin is Tchaikovsky's romantic masterpiece (based on Pushkin's epic poem), and looks with longing at youth and its lost loves and hopes. Acclaimed baritone Roland Wood (Kissinger in ENO's recent Nixon in China) will take the title role in ETO's new production, with soprano Amanda Echalaz (ETO's Jenùfa and Alcina) as Tatiana. Soprano Marie Elliot (Bradamante in ETO's Alcina) will portray Tatiana's sister Olga and tenor Michael.

Bracegirdle (ETO's Cavaradossi in Tosca) her lover Lensky. The cast will also include experienced singers bass Geoffrey Moses (WNO, Royal Opera) as Prince Gremin, mezzo sopranos Linda Hibberd (ENO, Scottish Opera) as Filipyevna and Clare Shearer (WNO, ROH) as Madame Larina. ETO's Associate Conductor Michael Rosewell will lead the orchestra, with James Conway directing and Joanna Parker as designer.

Eugene Onegin is at Hall for Cornwall, Truro on Tuesday, April 3, at 7.30pm.

In Spirit of Vienna (Wiener Blut), all of Strauss's favourite waltzes are woven together in this irresistibly amusing story of a philandering count and the wife who is more than a match for him. This staged concert sees the ETO orchestra take to the stage while the singers waltz their way through this sparkling tale. Scottish tenor sensation Nicky Spence sings the roguish Count, with Sylvia O'Brien as his elegant wife, Cheryl Enever as his mistress and Mary O'Sullivan as Pepi, his new love interest. Patrick Ashcroft plays his long-suffering servant Joseph, and baritone Richard Jackson brings exquisite comic timing to the role of the minister who stumbles upon this very Viennese ménage.

Spirit of Vienna is at Hall for Cornwall on Wednesday, April 4, at 7.30pm.

All three productions will be sung in English and feature a talented 26-piece orchestra
