The Irish traditional singer and bouzouki player from Dublin Daoiri Farrell will be performing at Devoran Village Hall on Sunday May 20.

He has been hailed as the new voice of Irish traditional music for his distinct, perceptive, and fluid vocals that reflect a deep love of Irish traditional song.

His instrumental musicianship has been honed through years of study and he has been praised by Irish folk revivalist Dónal Lunny as the most important traditional singer to emerge in recent years.

Although the only singer or musician in his immediate family, Daoiri was introduced to Irish music at a very early age by his parents who were fans of artists like Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Frank Harte, Planxty, The Bothy Band, and more.

He took up music at the relatively late age of 16 and only started to perform at 23 but has come a long way since then, releasing his debut album The First Turn in 2009.

After releasing his debut, Daoiri took an extended break from recording to pursue a degree in Applied Music at Dundalk's Institute of Technology, followed by an MA in Music Performance at the World Academy of Music in the University of Limerick.

Since returning to the stage, he has regularly performed in the many singing circles and folk clubs around Ireland, from Dublin's famous Góilin singers club to the All-Ireland Fleadh to name a few. He has performed alongside some of the biggest names in the Irish and international folk music industry including Christy Moore and Dónal Lunny.

He became the All Ireland Champion Singer at the Fleadh in county Derry in 2013 and won the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2015 with the line-up FourWinds.

He has continued to grow in stature among the Irish folk-singing circuit, and has toured in numerous line-ups throughout Ireland and beyond, including dates in France, Germany, America, Canada, and India. His UK launch as a solo artist took place at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival in January 2016. Daoiri's musicianship got further accolades at the 2017 BBC folk Awards when he won the Horizon Award for best newcomer and best traditional track for Van Diemen's Land, featured on his new CD True Born Irishman.

Daoiri will be appearing at Devoran Village Hall at 7:30pm on Sunday May 20. Tickets cost £10.50 and are available from 01872 262466 or hallforcornwall.co.uk, and the audience are welcome to bring their own refreshments.
