Falmouth Shout singers will put on their usual charity curtain-raiser for the international Sea Shanty Festival on June 7th at the Pennycomequick on the Moor.

Falmouth Shout have been singing together for 17 years and are still great friends. Over that time, some members have moved on for adventure or for work but many original members are still with the group and still singing in full voice.

Looking forward to the gig at the Penny, Shout Chairman Alan Barnes MBE said, “We had a short meeting to decide on a suitable venue for this year’s event and The Penny popped up. We knew that it was a Shanty Festival venue and that customers had had very good things to say about the welcome, good food and general ambience of a place that embraced its long history in Falmouth and was also looking ahead to an optimistic future with a new and appreciative clientele. It just made sense to be there.”

Falmouth Shout have pulled in well in excess of £40,000 for the RNLI and the Mission for Fishermen at Newlyn. This year’s event on Thursday June 7 in the refurbished Penny Come Quick on the Moor will be no different, with two substantial cheques being delivered to both the RNLI and The Fishermen’s Mission.

Singing and laughter is guaranteed from 8pm on the night and everyone can join in, all in the name of charity fundraising.

Penny landlord James Luck commented, “We’re absolutely thrilled and honoured to be playing host to The Shout this year. It’s such a great tradition and raises enormous amounts of money for the most worthy of charities, so we’re happy to do our bit to help out. We all love the sea and a shanty, and we know how generous Penny customers can be so it should be a fantastic event for everyone.”
