As competitive sailors took to the high seas during Falmouth Week, landlubbers took to the town for a voyage of dance and music.

Southwest Bars and Events served up another excellent vintage week of music and entertainment at Event’s Square.

The week-long celebration opened on the Friday night with the psychedelic pop artistry of DJ Nate Valentino fronting a packed Pink Wig Night.

The Wurzels entertained crowds with rustic set, appropriately enough accompanying the Hog Roast and Cider night on Sunday, August 12.

The much anticipated and rollicking I am a Cider Drinker was something of an anthem and the group’s good humour brought a happy diversion to anyone suffering a case of the Sunday night blues.

On Monday night Fleetwood Bac took the oldies on a journey back in time and gave the younger generations pause for thought as they played hit after hit.

This tribute band is said to be endorsed by the mighty Mick Fleetwood himself. Whether that’s rumour or fact, the band certainly delivered a great show.

Similarly professional were Too Petty in tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Free Fallin’ was the rather emotional centrepiece to this show and brilliantly received it was.

Tuesday night is probably the most surprising. The announcement that Leo Sayer had been booked to headline Falmouth Week was not initially met with much enthusiasm.

Yet Leo denied the nay-sayers their hour of doom by delivering a charming set and, in return, the audience stepped up to show appreciation to the veteran showman for a good time had by all.

On the Facebook page of Falmouth Week Events 2018 the organisation described the night as “a hell of a show,” going on to say: “The guy was brilliant. Thanks Leo, Falmouth loves you.”

They were not alone in enjoying Leo’s work. Angela replied: “He was BRILLIANT!” Andrew declared: “He was always a great entertainer” and Ian Blunt said it has been a “fantastic night”.

Three events were vying for being the most hotly anticipated of the week - the Craig Charles Funk and Soul club, supporting by The Smoking Guns on Thursday night, ska outfit Rudi’s Message for ska night and the 80s vs 90s Extravaganza on Friday night.

Go West, Snap and Dane Bowers vs Big Ben played out to a huge crowd bedecked in the best and worst fashions of the decades that style forgot.

Saturday night was an anthemic rockfest thanks to Queen tribute act The Bohemians and controversial comedian Jethro brought Falmouth Week to a typically Cornish end on Sunday.

It was another fantastic Falmouth Week with sights and sounds for music lovers of all tastes to enjoy.

The enthusiasm with which show-goers got into the spirit of the events by dressing up and getting down, as ever, showed Falmouth going full out for festivals and holding the best ones in the south west.
