A free screening of Chris Petit’s cult classic film Radio On from 1979 will be held at CAST in Helston on Saturday, September 9.

This film has been chosen by film-maker Mark Jenkin as part of Artist’s Choice, an occasional series of screenings selected by artists.

It stars David Beames as a young London DJ on his way to Bristol to investigate the mysterious death of his brother. As he travels through factories, motorways and cafés the dull grey lifelessness of the city bleeds into the damp, equally grey rural belt. Crammed with striking depictions of the English landscape and weather, and with a soundtrack featuring artists such as David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Ian Dury, Radio On offers a unique and compelling vision of late 1970s England.

The film will be introduced by Mark Jenkin. Mark is a British film-maker based in Cornwall and has written and directed a number of award-winning short films, low budget feature lengths and documentaries.

The screening starts at 8pm in CAST Café, admission is free and all are welcome. Food will be served from 7pm, something hot and something sweet for £6.50. Food is first come first served, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
