Following their very successful production of Private Lives by Noel Coward, the King Charles Mummers are holding readings and castings on November 21 and 23 for their next production.

The company will be performing A Bunch of Amateurs by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman and are looking for four female players, including for one role representing an 18 year old character, and three mature men.

Adapted from the film of the same name in 2014, the play features a washed up Hollywood star who is flown to England to play the title role in King Lear at Stratford, believing he will be appearing on stage at the legendary RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birth place of William Shakespeare.

Instead he finds he has signed on with the Stratford Players in the Suffolk village of Stratford St John.

He goes to the United Kingdom with his career deteriorating and having problems with his daughter, who has been neglected by her father and now wants to make him pay.

The piece is a play within a play, a quintessentially feel good British production, with great characters who all play a part in the story unfolding.

All are welcome to audition, or apply to join the team, at King Charles Church, choir vestry on November 21 and 23 at 7.30pm.
