An extraordinary one man show is touring throughout the county this autumn.

A macabre ghost story with spatters of murky vaudevillian humour, puppetry and song, Hyde & Seek is a rip-roaring thriller which expands on the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s allegory on duality - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

In a long-abandoned theatre languishing in one of the seedier corners of Victorian London an enigmatic stage-doorman weaves a grisly tale of the further misdeeds of Mr Hyde and his ‘acquaintance’, the tormented genius Dr Jekyll. Michael Tonkin-Jones plays this compelling role.

Technical design by Ciaran Clarke employs innovative LED lighting, chilling soundscapes and a whole host of other unconventional technical wizardry.

Hyde & Seek is an intimate and lavishly visual story-telling experience where ghostly figures are glimpsed briefly before vanishing, characters appear out of nowhere, and what you can’t quite see becomes much more disconcerting than what you can see.

Flat Packed Theatre's producer Jasmine Cole said: “The starting point for the project was a week in January spent exploring the possibilities of using wireless lights, touch sensitive props and writing our own computer code."

Michael explained that the show has been in the making for quite some time. “This ambitious project has been on the shelf for me for over six years, mostly because I wasn’t sure if my ideas for it would actually work in practice. It’s fantastic to see it coming together and I can’t wait to get it in front of audiences” Ciaran added “The use of this technology promises enormous creative possibilities for theatre makers at every level.”
