Cornwall’s award winning Miracle Theatre has been nurturing the tradition of touring theatre to rural locations and communities across Cornwall since 1979.

As part of its 40th year celebrations, the company is joining forces with the Museum of Cornish Life in Helston to share and celebrate this history with a month-long Miracle Theatre Time Capsule Exhibition in August.

“It’s lovely to have the opportunity to create this exhibition and launch it in one of our favourite museums” says Miracle founder and artistic director Bill Scott.

“This is such a great way of celebrating Miracle’s 40th birthday. It has been really entertaining sifting through our archive to find exhibits – an opportunity to reminisce and reflect and have a good laugh! I hope people will enjoy experiencing a rather unusual slice of Cornish life.”

As well as the exhibition, there will be a series of events and activities which have been made possible with support from the Heritage Fund.

Since the company’s first ever preview performance of The Beginning of the World at Perran Round in Perranporth, Miracle has been consistently touring across the county for 40 years.

It makes the most of Cornwall’s amazing locations, utilising gardens, heritage sites and medieval playing places and has delivered more than 3,000 performances of 44 plays in over 500 different venue locations.

Annette MacTavish, director Museum of Cornish Life, added: “Miracle Theatre have been dramatically utilising Cornwall as a stage for over 40 years and we are delighted to present this important story. Cornwall has a rich cultural heritage and we wanted to help celebrate and share this important story with all our visitors.”

The exhibition opens on August 1 and runs until September 3, with “Miracle Tuesdays” taking place each week, including drama and singing workshops.

It will start with museum director Annette MacTavish in conversation with Miracle founder, Bill Scott on Tuesday, August 6 at 2pm.

The museum team will also be co-hosting Miracle’s open-air performance of A Perfect World at Helston’s Coronation Park, on August 10.

Following on from all this, Miracle will also be launching an online version of the Time Capsule in August and will then end the summer with a bang at Enys House in Penryn.

More installations and events celebrating the last four decades of Miracle will take place on site from 4pm each day between 22-24 August, with an after-show birthday party on Friday, August 23.
